Vox Pop changes tune against Bush

Pink is trashing the fluffy blindness of modern pop singers with her new song Dear Mr. President:

Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why

Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We’re not dumb and we’re not blind
They’re all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell

What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye

Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don’t know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You’d never take a walk with me
Would you

Young has also started keeping a blog where he discusses the development of his latest work and his rage at the murderous lying bastards in the White House. Let’s Impeach The President leaves no illusions as to Young’s way forward for America.

It wasn’t that long ago that breathing a word in America in opposition to the Shrubya neo-con policies of global conquest and oil domination was cause for death threats; ask the Dixie Chicks, who are still Not Ready To Make Nice.

America is again starting to embrace the concept that Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore.

Music’s power to move mountains is once again proving impossible for even SONY to stop.

Yes –good. Mocking the posturing president concerning his actual toughness and capacity for hard work as apart from his pretended attributes!

Foxie, how do you think Neil Young & Pink are going to go on Clear Channel stations? CC seem to have a political preference… and since the decimation of media cross-ownership laws in the USA, they own 1,240 of them, as many as six radio stations in one town. This is the future of Australian media when Howard gets his way on trashing our own cross-media ownership restrictions.

I really like the spread of age/style demographic.
Pink, Dixie Chicks and Neil Young cover such a wide group (and style) of music lovers.
Green Day impressed me as musical radicals with their ‘American Idiot’ CD in 2004.

Even Merle Haggard has been radicalised and has released ‘Rebuild America First’

I’m being more and more impressed by Pink’s politics lately. I’ve admired the Dixie Chicks and Neil Young for longer. It’s a heartening trend.

TT, I’m mightily impressed with Pink for ‘Stupid Girls‘ as well. This may be speaking to the notion that Pink is getting a bit more editorial control over her singing career. Consider she once was in a music vid with Christina Aguilera, ok?  😀

Don’t forget Rickie Lee Jones’s last album, ‘The Evening of the Best Day’ or some such title. It has a number of anti-Bush songs, including one called Lapdog and another called Ugly Man. It’s great stuff, and has been out for a couple of years now.
