Up yours, King George

Americans have had a gutful of His Highness.

It’s a Democratic blowout in the US Congressional elections. Democrats look set to wrest control of BOTH the Senate and House of Representatives as well as pick up some governorships from the Repuglicans.

Ohio has its first Democrat governor in 20 years. Dem Ted Strickland walloped Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who is named in 16 voter lawsuits over election irregularities and fraud in the 2004 US Presidential election. Blackwell had promised to “deliver” Ohio to Bush– and did.

Extreme conservative Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum is a cross between Fred Nile and remarkably, Santo Santoro. Santorum has lost his Pennsylvania Senate seat to Democrat Bob Casey.

Funniest quip of the election comes from the Daily Kos comments

i can’t wait to see Santorum go down.

The thought of Santorum “going down”…

…is disgusting!!

With control of both houses of Congress, could the political will for impeachment be far behind? Even if articles of impeachment are not tabled, the days of the Bush rubber stamp in the US Congress are gone.

And… your home state (Indianna) has gone Blue again.

Impeachment? Hmmmm …we can only hope. I still think the dems might be too pussy-arsed to go that hard.

Darp, while it’s counterintuitive, ‘blue’ states are Democrat and ‘red’ states are Repuglican.

Indiana is solidly Repuglican at the moment, but it had a Democrat governor from 1989-2005. The biggest loser in Indiana is Repuglican Representative Dan Burton, a thoroughly arrogant prick who will be re-elected until voters can be convinced he’s really dead.

While Indiana was the last state I lived in before splitting for Aus in 1996, I was not born nor raised there. I was born about 30 miles from Cleveland, Ohio. My politics are unsurprisingly much more similar to those predominant in NE Ohio. I’m basically a liberal Democrat, if you have to label me in US terms.

If the Dems get the Senate, impeachment is in the cards, no doubt. They’ll have the votes to convict. Clinton was impeached but not convicted. If Bush is impeached with the Dems in control of Congress, he’ll be convicted and removed from office.

I want Bush to go to the Hague and Cheney impeached.

I will happily be left with a compliant President Frist.

‘President Frist’ would be utterly terrifying in any other circumstance… but yes, a President Frist under a Dem controlled Congress would be the most compliant little puppy the American xtian right have ever known.

now hang on a minute… if the Prez & VP are both removed from office, the Speaker of the House is next in line… but that’s no longer Bill freakin’ Frist. The Speaker of the House is now Nancy Pelosi.

That’ll be Madame President Pelosi if impeachments roll on. 😆

Takes a 2/3 majority in the Senate to convict though doesn’t it? Congress starts proceedings then the Senate tries them?

I think I have it right.

I don’t get how’d you be able to swing a 2/3 majority with the numbers at 52-50 or whatever.

Weez, is there some arcane Senate proceedure that I’m missing out on here?

Comment by Darp Hau 11.09.06 @ 7:33 pm

Darp, I believe you do have it right.

You’re also right that it would be difficult to get the numbers in the Senate to convict, but stranger things have happened. Not every Repuglican supports King George.
