{"id":221,"date":"2006-03-15T12:47:04","date_gmt":"2006-03-15T01:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=221"},"modified":"2006-03-15T15:00:59","modified_gmt":"2006-03-15T04:00:59","slug":"fisk-lecture-attendance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=221","title":{"rendered":"Fisk lecture attendance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Absent any substance with which to discredit Robert Fisk, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/rwdb.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/fisk-alerts-world-this-is-not-drill.html\">lightweight right-wingers<\/a> who did not attend the lecture have chosen to attack the attendance figure estimate of the recent Robert Fisk lecture at Macquarie University.<\/p>\n<p>While the lecture was free of charge and thus no precise ticket count is available, the lecture was conducted in the Maquarie Theatre and also connected via closed-circuit video to three other halls on campus.<\/p>\n<p>According to sources at Mac U, the Macquarie Theatre itself seats 495 people, the Price Theatre seats 250, W5A Theatre 1 seats 150 and W5A Theatre 2 seats 150. That&#8217;s 1045 <em>legal<\/em> seats. While the organisers made some effort to clear the stairways, Mac U security did not faithfully enforce the one-bum-one-seat rule. Each hall was around 10% overcapacity, giving a reasonable possibility of 1149 or more.<\/p>\n<p>I estimated <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=217\">1000<\/a>. Seems I shot low.<\/p>\n<p>Fisk&#8217;s main point is that if you treat people like dogs- they will act like them.
