{"id":629,"date":"2009-04-24T08:45:48","date_gmt":"2009-04-23T21:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=629"},"modified":"2009-09-20T00:01:31","modified_gmt":"2009-09-19T13:01:31","slug":"atug-communicator-of-the-year-medalist-stephen-conroy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=629","title":{"rendered":"ATUG &#8216;Communicator of the Year&#8217; medalist: Stephen Conroy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No&#8230; I&#8217;m NOT kidding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/blogimages\/conroy_atug_communicator_of_the_year_medal.jpg\" title=\"Of COURSE he's laughing\" width=\"400\" height=\"455\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Conjob was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atug.com.au\/mediarelease\/2009\/ExcellenceAwards09.pdf\">awarded a medal by ATUG<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.atug.com.au\/\">Australian Telecommunications Users Group<\/a>) :<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>Charles Todd Medal winner for Communicator of the Year &#8211; Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.<br \/>\n<\/strong>ATUG has appreciated the Minister&#8217;s focus on engagement with end users:<br \/>\n* seeking input from &#8220;feisty and fearless friends&#8221;,<br \/>\n* improving levels of customer service by guiding and working with industry,<br \/>\n* developing Australia&#8221;s digital economy,<br \/>\n* working through the platforms, the polices<\/em><em> [sic], the opportunities and the obstacles,<br \/>\n* supporting ATUG&#8221;s Roam Fair Campaign- taking the initiative in APECTEL, the OECD and the ITU to secure fairer outcomes for end users.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ATUG debases themselves to the point of hilarity by giving a &#8216;Communicator of the Year&#8217; award to the Ministard for Communications, who <em>studiously<\/em> avoided communications such as answering questions both in Parliament and in public about Labor&#8217;s proposed mandatory internet filter, until the ACMA blacklist was leaked. The leak forced Conjob to appear on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/tv\/qanda\/txt\/s2521164.htm\">ABC Q&amp;A<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.sbs.com.au\/insight\/episode\/index\/id\/59\">SBS Insight<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=623\">Triple J&#8217;s Hack<\/a> program, on all of which the <a href=\"http:\/\/machinegunkeyboard.com\/?p=623#comment-20657\">Ministard<\/a> obfuscated and waffled over what materials would be banned, tried desperately to claim that ACMA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/newmatilda.com\/polliegraph\/?p=567\">&#8216;Refused Classification&#8217; rating means &#8216;illegal,&#8217;<\/a>and was in all cases handed his arse on a platter by anyone with a cursory understanding of how the internet works.<\/p>\n<p>That pack of &#8216;feisty and fearless friends&#8217; would include pro-censorship mobs like the Australian Christian Lobby (who want everything not in the bible removed from the internet), Webshield (ISP) CEO Anthony Pillion (and any other censorware vendors who stand to turn a fast buck off of mandatory internet censorship), ChildWise CEO Bernadette McMenamin (who doesn&#8217;t understand how the internet works yet calls those who do liars), etc. Feisty, fearless.. and absolutely unfettered by knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>If Conjob merits a &#8216;Communicator of the Year&#8217; award, Robert Mugabe is well past due for a Nobel Prize for Economics.<\/p>\n<p>ATUG?
