As an expat American, I’ve for far too long endured my nation of birth having a reputation of being run by the faerie-tale believers. Religion, namely fundamentalist evangelical christianity, got to make rules for science for 8 years.

Obama is swiftly putting the Christian Taliban into perspective. A single-digit percentage of religious nuts in the US population have had too much influence for too long. They never should have been allowed to dictate limits on science- and now they won’t.

The days of religionists making rules which bind everyone, whether those folks are faerie-taleists or not, are done. If you don’t like abortion, don’t have one. If you don’t like stem-cell research, you’re completely entitled to not use any medical treatments that are developed from it- but you’re no longer in a position to tell everyone else what medical care or treatments they can and cannot have.

Damn right, big ask. ‘All’ Obama has to do now is break the American Medical Association’s grip on American healthcare. The AMA’s membership won’t like a single payer, universal healthcare scheme one bit because of the bargaining power that gives the payer over the prices they’ll pay.

If the insurer tries to force prices down, providers may demand co-payments from healthcare consumers. The govt will have to ban additional charges to make it work, while not forcing the rate of payment down to the point that providers will exit the industry. However, smart providers will realise that when everyone has insurance, they’ll treat more patients and have the potential to make more dough. Downside to that is that providers will tend to underprovide services to keep people moving through the system.

Quite the balancing act for the providers to supply quality healthcare while still making a reasonable margin. Mind you, the definition of ‘reasonable margin’ probably won’t include a new Lambo every year for every GP.

Universal healthcare is good for everyone except greedheaded providers.

If a person credits his imaginary friend for whatever happens in the universe, he/she would be put on prescription drugs. Sadly, millions are affected with this mental malfunction and its diagnosed as a normal state of being. The recent attitude of these affected people towards the 9yr rape proved once more their inability to reason with a balanced mental capacity.

yeah mel, I was totally gobsmacked when the godkooks insisted that the girlchild should carry to term and have a c-section delivery, when all doctors on the case said that the child’s uterus simply could not support gestation of twins. The child mother and her progeny would all have died.

…as IF any of that should have been even considered. A 9 y-o girl turns up pregnant, your first concern is the 9 y-o girl’s wellbeing, nothing else.

Sometimes the stupid just burns.
